About the company
GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by more than 50 million registered users and over 50% of the Fortune 100. With $130M+ in backing and a fully remote, async-first culture, GitLab is transforming how the world develops software through AI-first workflows and values-driven collaboration.
About the role
As an AI Engineer on the Enterprise Technology & AI team, you'll build internal AI-powered solutions that drive measurable business outcomes across Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support. Reporting to the Director of Enterprise AI, you'll own initiatives end-to-end — from diagnosing real business constraints through deployment — combining strong engineering fundamentals with systems thinking.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose business problems before building: map workflows, identify constraints, and confirm whether AI is actually the right intervention
- Own AI initiatives end-to-end — stakeholder discovery, technical design, implementation, deployment, and iteration
- Design and ship AI-powered solutions quickly, delivering working prototypes in days with focus on measurable business value
- Integrate AI capabilities into existing systems (Salesforce, Marketo, Zendesk, Workato, Relevance AI, Glean) using APIs and orchestration tools
- Improve organizational flow by reducing bottlenecks, shortening lead times, and tracking success via flow metrics and ROI
- Act as Customer Zero: leverage GitLab's own AI offerings (Duo Agent Platform) and feed real-world insights back to R&D
- Define and track success through business metrics, flow metrics, and feedback loops
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar)
- Solid understanding of REST APIs, GraphQL, and integration patterns
- Deep practical experience with prompt engineering, model selection, RAG architecture, agentic patterns, and multi-agent orchestration
- Practical fluency across the LLM ecosystem: Anthropic, OpenAI, and open-source alternatives
- AI safety awareness: input validation, output filtering, prompt injection defenses, access controls, and data leakage prevention
- Systems thinking ability: map end-to-end workflows, identify constraints, trace problems to root causes
- Familiarity with enterprise business systems: CRM, marketing automation, support platforms, and integration tools
- Track record of owning complex initiatives from discovery through delivery with measurable outcomes
Nice to have
- Experience with GitLab platform and CI/CD workflows
- Background in consulting, solutions engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
- Familiarity with value stream mapping, flow metrics, or Theory of Constraints
- Experience with low-code/no-code orchestration tools (n8n, Make, Workato)
- Previous startup or high-growth company experience
- Experience mentoring or leading technical projects with junior engineers
Benefits & perks
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Equity compensation and Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- Health, finances, and well-being benefits
