About the company
Drata is a compliance automation platform on a mission to help companies earn and keep user, customer, and partner trust. With 600+ employees worldwide, the company grew from $0 to $100M ARR in four years and is consistently recognized on Fortune's Best Workplaces lists. They operate with a high-velocity, owner-operator culture centered on trust, speed, and continuous improvement.
About the role
This is a full-stack, customer-facing AI product engineering role embedded within Drata's product teams — not a platform or infra job. You'll own the end-to-end development of AI features that translate LLM, RAG, and agentic capabilities into polished product experiences compliance practitioners actually trust. You'll collaborate tightly with AI Engineers, Product, and Design to close the gap between AI capability and the customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Build AI-powered product features end-to-end (React/TypeScript UI + Node.js/Python backend) with streaming, graceful degradation, and human-in-the-loop patterns
- Translate RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and structured reasoning into natural, intuitive product interactions
- Partner with AI Engineers to define API contracts and output schemas
- Surface where model outputs break down in practice and iterate the product layer accordingly
- Build user-facing feedback loops to capture AI output quality signals
- Instrument AI features with product-level observability (latency, engagement, task completion, drop-off)
- Establish reusable patterns (streaming hooks, feedback components, AI state management) to accelerate future AI feature development
- Mentor engineers newer to AI product development; participate in design and engineering reviews
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience shipping full-stack features in production
- 2+ years working on AI-powered product features
- Strong React and TypeScript skills; experience with async, streaming, and real-time UI
- Solid Python and Node.js/TypeScript backend skills; experience integrating LLM providers and AI services
- Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), prompt engineering, context management, RAG, and structured outputs
- Experience with agent frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain, or custom runtimes)
- Experience with streaming response patterns (SSE, WebSockets, chunked HTTP)
- Strong product sense and cross-functional collaboration skills
Nice to have
- Experience in compliance, security, or GRC domains
- Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-use interfaces
- Exposure to RAG system design and debugging retrieval quality from the product layer
- Experience building feedback and annotation tooling for AI output quality
Benefits & perks
- Up to 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for employees and dependents
- 401(k) plan, company-paid life and disability insurance, tax-advantaged spending accounts
- Equity (RSUs) and shared ownership model
- Paid parental leave (after 6 months), Kindbody fertility and family-building benefits
- Annual stipends for professional and personal development
- Flexible vacation policy and paid holidays
- Healthcare concierge services and comprehensive wellness benefits
Compensation
Base salary $192,000–$259,800 depending on leveling and experience. Equity in the form of RSUs. Full benefits package as described above. Ranges subject to modification; final offer may vary.
