Basis is a nonprofit applied AI research organization focused on understanding and building intelligence, and advancing society's ability to solve intractable problems.
Basis is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit applied research organization with two mutually reinforcing goals: to understand and build intelligence by establishing the mathematical principles of reasoning, learning, and decision-making, and to advance society's ability to solve intractable problems by expanding the scale and complexity of problems that can be solved.
The organization builds a new technological foundation inspired by human reasoning, and works directly on high-impact challenge problems. It identifies shared bottlenecks and turns them into durable, open-source methods, software, and research through its core-tech work. Basis collaborates with academic and industrial partners to keep frontier ideas in computational mathematics and practical needs in close contact.
Basis is funded through a combination of grants, donations, and company contracts, all aimed at solving important problems while building durable foundations that spread beyond any single project.
