About Allen Institute for AI (Ai2)
Ai2 is a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute founded in 2014 by Paul Allen. It develops open-source AI models, science tools, and conservation platforms.
Ai2 develops open AI models and research tools. It has released language models such as OLMo and Tulu 3, multimodal models like Molmo, and offers a playground for testing them. Its applications include Semantic Scholar for searching scientific literature, Asta for autonomous scientific discovery, and environmental platforms like EarthRanger and Skylight.
The institute serves researchers, developers, and scientists by providing open datasets, evaluation frameworks, and access to experimental tools such as AutoDiscovery through AstaLabs. Its robotics team, led by Dieter Fox, investigates foundation models for robotics using large-scale simulation environments and real-world systems.
Ai2 is a nonprofit research organization based in Seattle. It partners with institutions like the University of Washington, the National Science Foundation, and Google Cloud to support its open research mission.
